Finding one's self through pictures

One of the great things about being a photographer is helping people rediscover themselves, which was the purpose of this beach end-of-year shoot.

We often go into a new year with goals and high expectations. Pictures help us to remember them if things start to stray during the year.

I've worked with countless clients who were either reinventing or rediscovering themselves. It's an honor for me to have such an important role in their personal journies.

Breakin' in a new model

Anyone who knows me knows I'm no stranger to style.

I've kicked my style game up recently, from rebranding my personal IG account to working on my blog that will launch in a few days.

In my research, I came across a local style blogger who had a look I thought would do really well in a real shoot.

It wasn't until halfway through the shoot that I found out this was her first photoshoot with a professional photographer.

And I'm sure it won't be her last.

Now is the time to think about your wedding photographer

It’s the time of year when proposal plans are being set in stone.

Or someone thinks they’re being proposed to.

The ring has been picked and the proposal location, as well as the proposal strategy, has been set.

Or you’re trying to see if this proposal season is the one.

But what about pictures?

They may be the last thing on your mind, especially that the proposal hasn’t happened yet.

But here’s why you should be thinking about photography:

  • Pictures are one of the few tangible reminders of your wedding day. You want to ensure that you have the right person for the job. Plus do you want to look at bad pictures of your wedding day 20 years later?
  • Other major life moments follow a wedding: baby showers, child birth, promotions, graduations, etc. Your wedding photographer becomes your family photographer and go-to person for professional pictures.
  • You'll need someone for your engagement pictures.
  • And oh yeah, you may want pictures of the proposal.

Photography is something that many don’t think about until they need them, and with so many photographers out there, it's beneficial for you to establish a relationship with on early.

So before you get on one knee or say yes, give some thought to your photographer.

Yes, photographers can keep secrets

Photographers are often tapped with recording some of the most important moments of people's lives.

Weddings. Graduations. Pregnancy announcements.

But every once in a while, we're tasked with taking great pictures and not telling anyone right away, as in the case with Regina and Gregory.

Both are expecting their first child, and as those with children know, the first few months can be tricky. Such is why they wanted things to be all clear before telling the world - which they did this morning.

What was also cool about this shoot is that it was my first in downtown Tampa. It's been a few years since I've lived in an area with a real skyline, and it was wonderful capturing that and the joy of two expecting first-time parents.

Congratulations Regina & Gregory!

Feelin’ blue, but in a cool way

Moving to a new area can present real challenges for creatives, for it’s not easy coming across people you can truly vibe with.

Luckily, I found someone who lives one apartment complex away.

It was by chance that I met Kumiko, who also happens to be the first Tampa Bay model I reached out to since moving here.

And her turning blue was the result of a willingness to experiment.

The vibe of the shoot was sexy and seductive, and I definitely wanted that illustrated in the photos, from the dark background to the temperature of the pictures.

While lowering the temperature of the photos, I wanted to see what the picture looked like in black and white.

This was the result.
