It’s amazing to watch those I once mentored become adults and live awesome lives.
I met Darrell when he was a student at North Carolina Central University who was interested in joining my fraternity. I remember hosting weekly sessions where he and his fellow interests would study and talk about life.
Not only did Darrell become a member of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., NCCU is also where he met his future wife, Simone.
So it only made sense to start off their engagement photo session on campus.
Not every engagement shoot involves a location of sentimental value to the couple. Sometimes there just isn’t one (i.e. meeting on the internet) or it’s not accessible for whatever reason. So I greatly enjoy capturing engagement photos at a location that has deep personal meaning to the couple.
Darrell and Simone also wanted some pictures that showed their grown and sexy, so I figured The Durham Hotel would be an excellent spot.
The Durham Hotel is one of the many examples of how Downtown Durham has grown. The hotel wasn’t around when I lived in Durham the first time, and I just happened to come across it during one of my recent walks around downtown. Once I saw their rooftop deck, I knew this was the place for Darrell and Simone.
A shot like this would ideally take place during the evening, but sexy doesn’t have a timeframe, right? Plus I had an engagement that evening. The windy conditions, nor the chill in the air, could stop Darell and Simone from showing off their love for each other.
Much thanks to Amy at The Durham Hotel for allowing us to capture these moments on their rooftop.
And much thanks to Darrell & Simone for allowing me to be a part of their love journey.
